Insecticides Design Using Advanced Technologies
Publisher: Springer | Pages: 314 | 2007-02 | ISBN 3540469044 | PDF | 8 MB
In the past, insecticide development has been guided mostly bychemo-rational and bio-rational design based on understanding of thephysiology and ecology of insects and crops. A limitation in each newclass of compounds is the evolution of resistance in populations of keypests, which ultimately leads to control failures. This phenomenon andthe desire to produce more selective and biorational compounds serve asthe driving force to develop advanced technologies for insecticidedesign. Among the highlights of this book are the use of nanotechnologyto increase potency of available insecticides, the use of geneticengineering techniques for controlling insect pests, the development ofnovel insecticides that bind to unique biochemical receptors, theexploration of natural products as a source for environmentallyacceptable insecticides, and the use of insect genomics and cell linesfor determining biological and biochemical modes of action of newinsecticides.
